Frequently Asked Questions
Do the needles hurt?
The needles usually do not hurt. Some patients may feel a slight “zing” sensation referred to as a “chi-sensation”. Acupuncture needles are thin, and hair-like, much smaller and different than a typical injection-type needle that causes pain. Often acupuncture needles produce a relaxing sensation while the body experiences recovery.
Are the needles sterile?
Yes. We only use sterile, disposable needles. Each needle comes individually sealed and is used only once.
How frequently do I need to come?
The acupuncturist tailors the number of treatments to your individual case. The frequency depends upon your condition, imbalances, and how chronic the illness is. Treatments generally vary from 1-2 times a week. Your acupuncturist will discuss your diagnosis and plan of care at your evaluation (first visit).
Will I feel better after the first treatment?
Again this depends upon the condition and imbalances present. Everyone responds differently. Patients with acute conditions may feel better after just one or two visits. However, patients with chronic conditions may require more treatments to start feeling results. Generally, patients begin to feel better and more balanced after 5-7 treatments.
How long will each treatment take?
About 30-45 minutes.
Is acupuncture right for me?
You are more than welcome to call (951) 238-8771 or email the acupuncturist with any general questions you may have. Some detailed questions, however, may be difficult to answer until the patient is seen for an evaluation.
Is acupuncture covered by my insurance?
Our office does not bill health insurance plans and we are not listed on any contracted insurance networks.
For patients with private insurance (PPO):
Payment is due when services rendered. Upon request, we can provide a detailed invoice for PPO patients to bill their own insurance companies. Insurance companies will typically reimburse patients at the "out of network" rate. Please check your coverage first: insurance companies and policies differ regarding payment for acupuncture health services. Check with your insurance agent to see if you are covered.
What can I do to prepare for my first visit?
Here are a few DOs and DON'Ts for before and after your treatment:
- Have a light meal/snack before your treatment
- Wear loose comfortable clothing
- Drink lots of water for 2-3 days after your treatment
- Do not eat or drink anything that will stain the tongue prior to treatment
(ex: no candy or coffee that will stain the tongue)
- Do not come to your treatment with wet hair
- No vigorous activity for 6 hours after your treatment
What methods of payment are accepted?
Our office accepts cash, checks, Visa, and Mastercard. If you have any more questions concerning our payment policies, please contact our office directly.
